Dorothy M. Tripoli

December 20, 1917 ~ April 11, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Dorothy M. Tripoli, 98, of Pittsburgh’s South Side, died Monday April 11, 2016 at home in the presence of friends and loved ones.  She was born December 20, 1917 in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Cardillo.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Balthasare (Bud) L. Tripoli, thirty nine years ago.  She was also predeceased by two brothers, Alfred Cardell and Henry Cardillo, and by three sisters Marcy Nigro, Edith DiGiorgio, and Helen Corso.  Dorothy traveled to California to be with Bud during his military service, returning to Pittsburgh after World War II where they raised their two sons, Thomas R. Tripoli and Gerald H. Tripoli.  She was a life-long health enthusiast; following a daily regimen of yoga and healthy organic foods.  Even well into her late eighties, she still power walked three miles a day and baked her own special whole-wheat bread. Dorothy is survived by a brother, Robert Cardillo, sons, Thomas R. Tripoli and Gerald H. Tripoli, his wife, Mariana, four granddaughters, Mara Tripoli, Olivia Tripoli, Alyssa (Brock) Wells and Elizabeth Tripoli, two great-grandchildren, Xavier Wells and Alexandra Wells, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends.  Dorothy was cared for in her final days by Christine Tripoli, Mary Young, and the fine personnel at Family Hospice Healthcare Palliative Care.  Family and friends will be received from 4 PM – 8 PM on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the John Gmiter Funeral Home Ltd., at 119 S. 15th Street, Pittsburgh, Pa 15203.  Parting prayers will be held at 9 AM Friday at the John Gmiter Funeral Home, followed by a 10:00 Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Adalbert’s Church of the Prince of Peace Parish located at 160 S. 15th Street.  Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the nearby social hall following the mass.  Dorothy will be interred at the Mount Royal Cemetery beside her beloved husband Bud.
