Amy Maria Krywancz Thomas, age 62, quietly passed away on August 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church and participated in church choir and Ukrainian dance ensemble. She was graduated from South Hills High School and Duquesne University. After graduation, she moved to Washington, DC, where she practiced hospice and oncology nursing, and met her husband of thirty-five years, David.
Amy loved to entertain; her gourmet meals were not to be missed. A crack shot, she may well have downed the pheasant main dish. She is remembered for her prolific vegetable gardens and elaborately decorated cookies that completed her Ukrainian holiday feasts. She enjoyed creating warm home settings in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Mansfield, Georgia, doting on her cats and dogs, and traveling throughout Europe.
She is particularly remembered for earning the coveted AKC Master hunter title with her working Clumber spaniel, Edwina, all while enduring therapy for cancer.
She is survived by her husband, David Shepard Thomas, MD; uncle, William Francis Manko; sister-in-law, Carole Krivanich; beloved dogs, Maggie, Winnie, Freyja, and Tyra.
She is predeceased by her father, Eugene Krywancz; mother, Marianne Manko; and brother, Mark Joseph Krivanich.
Friends and family received at the John J. Gmiter Funeral Home, Ltd., 119 South 15th Street, Pittsburgh, PA on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 6 - 8 pm, with Parastas occurring at 6 pm. A funeral prayer service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Funeral Home.
