Evelyn Haines, age 90, of the South Side, died peacefully on January 2, 2026.
Evelyn was the beloved mother of Cindy Haines (Richard Bachmaier) and devoted grandmother of Adam and Eve Lyn Bachmaier. She adored her grandchildren, and they, in turn adored her. She had many, many nieces and nephews and loved them all dearly. She cherished all of her extended family members, as well as her numerous friends and neighbors. Anna and Frank Perdziola, her parents, preceded her in death, as did her eight siblings. Evelyn was especially proud of her South Side roots and Ukrainian heritage.
Evelyn, aka "Aunt Dolly", was extravagant, unconventional, bold, and beautiful. She made every moment feel like an adventure! Aunt Dolly heard every word you said and enjoyed every conversation you ever had with her. Her attention to relationships was her super power.
Friends and relatives will be received THURSDAY, January 8, 2026 from 4 - 8 p.m. (Parastas at 6 p.m.) at the JOHN J. GMITER Funeral Home, Ltd. (412-431-0867) 119 So. 15th Street, South Side, 15203. Funeral Prayer at the funeral home will be held the following Morning, FRIDAY at 9:30, with Mass following at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church on Carson Street. Interment will be at the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Cemetery in Baldwin with a luncheon following at the South Side Cohatch Center, 2681 Sidney Street.
Many thanks and appreciation to all those who sent cards and visited Evelyn in her final months. Remember, she loved you all!
