Mary Ann Gray

On May 5, 2021.  Wife of the late George C. Gray.  Daughter of Samuel and Bertha Zadorozny.  Mother of George (Jan), Gregory (Maryann), Georgiane (Ray) Fonos, and Gaina (Mark) Miklusko.  Sister of the late Edward (Helen) Zadorozny.  Grandmother of CJ (Angie) Gray, Jessica (Blaec) Croft, Zachary Gray, Gregory (Tina) Fonos, Kim (Chris) Rodman, and Justin (Colleen) DeVries.  Great-Grandmother of Brenden Gray, Samantha Gray, Ava DeVries, Alexander DeVries, Cali Fonos and Kendall Fonos.   Mary Ann was a lifetime member of the Holy Assumption of St. Mary Church, 19th Street, Pittsburgh, PA.  She was active in the church and participated in most of their volunteer activities including making perogies for the Lenten Fish Fry Friday's fundraising events.  She spent a lifetime learning about all things Eastern European focusing on her Russian ancestral heritage.  She and her late husband George visited Russia several times and she gathered both memories and matryoshka and babushka-nesting-dolls.  She had a collection of Balalaikas and for years belonged to a Balalaika ensemble.  She also was a member of the CCAC choir for a few years.  After raising four children, she went on to challenge herself with several different professional positions including teacher's aide at the School for the Blind and as a licensed real estate agent.  She even sold beer as one of the original vendors during the inaugural season for the Pirates at PNC Park.  She spent her later years as a resident of the South Side to be close to her church.  She was a fierce friend to many and a joy to those South Side residents she talked with on her constant strolls around the neighborhood.  Friends received at the John J. Gmiter Funeral Home, Ltd, 119 South 15th Street, Pittsburgh, South Side on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm.  Paschal Litya on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 5 pm.  Funeral Service on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10 am. at Holy Assumption of St. Mary Orthodox Church, 105 19th Street, South Side.
